What areas of my body need more hydration?

It is important to be hydrated to avoid having dry skin and to provide it with the necessary moisture. To maintain adequate hydration levels for your body, there is nothing better than drinking enough water, but in the case of the skin, we must also take certain special care, since it is prone to drying out due to constant exposure to the sun, cold, hot water baths, etc.

How do you know if you have dry skin?

The skin is dried by external factors that we can sometimes control. However, both the change of seasons and the cold or low humidity, among other factors, can cause you to have dry skin for seasons or even permanently. The symptoms that your skin may present will depend on your age, exposure to the outdoors, and your body’s health. We show you some of the signs that you can observe:

  • Feel tightness in the skin, especially after the shower or the pool.
  • The skin flakes.
  • Your skin feels rough.
  • Fine cracks are formed, especially in the areas of greater contact with the open air.
  • Itchiness.
  • Redness

Factors that can contribute to dry skin.

In general, having dry skin is due to environmental factors or exposure to other agents:

  • Excessive heat: Exposure to sources that give off heat, such as fireplaces, central heating, or wood stoves, reduce humidity, and contribute to drying out the skin.
  • Climate: The change of seasons also affects the skin, being more noticeable in winter, because low temperatures and wind can alter the hydrolipidic barrier. This can cause redness, wounds, and a burning sensation in the hands and areas of your skin that are most exposed.
  • Strong soaps: believe it or not, there are soaps and shampoos that we use daily that can dry out the skin, since their chemical components are formulated to remove oil and dirt produced by sweating.
  • Hot baths: using hot showers or baths with water at high temperatures for a long period of time is the cause of dry skin and the frequent use of excessively chlorinated pools.

Care that we must give to the skin, especially those forgotten areas.

Since the skin is the part of our body that has contact with the outside, we must take care of its health, especially in some areas that need more care, such as:

  • Face and hands: as they are the most exposed to the weather, remember to take care of them constantly and with special creams for each area. 
  • Earlobe, lip contour, between the eyebrows and under the chin: you had not thought about these areas, right? When you use a moisturizing cream for the face, do not forget to also use one for the areas from the ear’s birth to the lobe and under the chin, around the lips, and between the eyebrows; there are specialized creams for that fine skin.
  • Elbows, inner part of the forearms, and armpits: You must protect the elbows very well with a special cream, since it is the part of our body that dries the most. You can use a firming cream for the forearms. Remember that because the skin is so delicate, it becomes flabby quickly. The armpits should also be taken care of as it is a sensitive area and is easily irritated.
  • Abdomen, chest, and buttocks: they are composed of soft tissue and are the areas that undergo the greatest changes during pregnancy, hormonal processes, and the passage of age, so good hydration and the use of firming creams to prevent sagging will help you preserve very healthy skin in these areas.

For optimal skincare, it is advisable to avoid exposure to agents that can affect its humidity and, above all, to use products that keep your skin healthy in each case. Remember that not all skin types are the same; This can be: dry, normal or oily, mixed, with a tendency to atopy. Using creams with panthenol, a provitamin, helps the skin regeneration process.
