In winter there is a lot of sniffing or wheezing - every year. But you don't always have to go to the doctor right away, because home remedies for cough often help.
When it is just starting to scratch your throat, or when the cough appears as a side effect of a nasty runny nose, there is usually a good chance that you can cure yourself - and simple ingredients from the kitchen are sometimes enough.
It is cheap and available everywhere, and you will probably have onions in the house anyway. You have a proven home remedy for cough because cough syrup has been made from onions and sugar for centuries. Here's how it works:
Finely chop one or two onions, sprinkle with 150 grams of cane sugar and let it steep for about five hours. The resulting brew can be poured into a bottle after pressing the onion mass through a cloth. Take one teaspoon an hour as a miraculous home remedy for cough.
The onion's effectiveness is its antibacterial properties; it contains essential oils, vitamin C, plant hormones, linoleic acid, sulfur, and zinc - this makes the onion the star of our home remedies for cough.
Eucalyptus oil, tea tree oil, lavender oil, thyme oil, and marjoram oil are among the essential oils with which you can treat cough yourself; they are also suitable for relieving symptoms during drug therapy. You do not take these oils directly, but put about ten drops in hot water and inhale the vapors. For example, eucalyptus oil removes inflammation and loosens cramps and mucus. This makes it easier for the body to cope with the disease more quickly and not to make it chronic.
Anyone who has a cough should definitely drink a lot. Hot drinks such as tea work particularly well and help to cough up phlegm, but also ensure an adequate supply of fluids even with a dry cough.
Herbal tea works better than black tea when it comes to drinking large amounts; Thyme, sweet root, marshmallow, fennel, and ribwort are among the herbs that work particularly well as a home remedy for cough. With a spoonful of honey, the tea is sweetened deliciously and pleasantly.
Heated rooms easily become very dry, which can irritate the throat and contribute to coughing. Especially the bedroom should not be too warm, maximum 18 degrees; if in doubt, throw a blanket over more, but keep the room air cool. The air humidity in living rooms should be between 45 and 60 percent. Otherwise, the mucous membranes in the throat, throat and nose can dry out, making the body unable to fight off bacteria and viruses as well.
If you cannot influence the indoor climate at the moment, cough drops and regular drinking help against excessively dry mucous membranes. Also, make sure that you have warm feet - cold feet are often the beginning of a cold.
