The unknown benefits of charcoal for your skin

In recent years, charcoal has become one of the main ingredients in many beauty products. And it is that this particular mineral has plenty of reasons to be one of the best allies in the care of our body. If you want to know the unknown benefits of carbon for your skin, we will tell you all below.

What does activated carbon bring to our skin?

If we look back, in natural medicine of yesteryear activated carbon was used in many of the natural remedies and medicines that were manufactured in those times, especially in formulas that were used to detoxify the body and prevent viral diseases.

Today, charcoal has made an important niche in the beauty and body care sector. In addition, both women and men use it equally because this mineral of plant origin has effective properties to absorb gases, chemicals, and all kinds of waste and toxins that accumulate in our skin.

It must be clarified, first of all, that the charcoal used in the manufacture of cosmetic products is not the same charcoal that we pour, for example, on a barbecue. Charcoal comes from a mixture of different materials such as bamboo, coconut, wood, or peat. This charcoal, which is mainly used in natural cosmetics and for skincare, is called activated charcoal, because it is activated by heating at very high temperatures, and subsequently receives an oxygen treatment.

Whether in the form of a cream, lotion, mask, or gel, one of the main benefits that activated carbon brings to the skin is its effective power to cleanse it thoroughly, since it is a mineral that has great absorption power from the skin oil. For this reason, activated carbon is currently one of the main ingredients in many treatments for acne and oily skin. Its absorbent power helps close pores and prevent unsightly pimples on the face and other areas of the body.

Keep in mind that, even if we apply it in a mask or cream, the carbon will not be absorbed by our skin, but will only be used to absorb bacteria and, in general, all the dirt that has accumulated in the pores. To all these benefits, we must add, in addition, that many cosmetic products intended to prevent skin aging and improve skin elasticity, also contain activated carbon because through this mineral, we can make our skin look brighter, and you will look younger and more radiant. The same is valid for many lotions and anti-stain treatments, which contain activated carbon as the main ingredient to treat skin that is stained by the effects of the sun, age, or hormonal changes.

How to make a homemade activated carbon mask

If you want to make a simple and effective activated carbon mask at home yourself, you can do it. You just have to mix the activated carbon, which you can buy in specialized establishments or pharmacies, with other ingredients such as Aloe Vera, coconut oil, or powdered green tea. Once you have all the ingredients, first mix dry ingredients, such as activated charcoal or powdered green tea, in a cup. Then add the wet ingredients to this mixture, that is, coconut oil, Aloe Vera, or any other essential oil you have chosen.

The next step will be to apply this mixture to the skin of the face, always avoiding contact with the nose and eyes, and leave it to act for 15 to 20 minutes. After this time, you should wash your skin with plenty of water to remove the remains of this mask in depth.
